      • Introduction:

          Health Tip

After testing used toothbrushes and growing bacterial cultures, dental experts found that those toothbrushes were infected with bacteria such as Streptococcus Hemolyticus, Pneumobacillus, Escherichia coli, Straphylococcus and some fungus or yeast species such as Candida and Candida albicans. They also discovered that after 3 weeks of daily use, a toothbrush can harbor millions of bacterial colonies, a staggering amount that potentially has serious health consequences. If placed in bathrooms, invisible plumes of airborne bacteria generated by toilet flushing will also contaminate the toothbrush. Every day, when people brush their teeth, bacteria will invade the human body through damaged gingival and oropharynx mucosae. Even if your gingival and oropharynx mucosae have no wound, the bacteria in your teeth will mix with food during the process of chewing and eventually enter the human body, causing diseases like gingivitis, chronic pharyngitis and stomatitis. This kind of oral disease may lead to diseases or make diseases worse, like heart disease, stomach disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis and its complications.

Your toothbrush may harbor a large number of bacteria, which poses a threat to people’s health. Although maintaining good habits of hygiene can reduce that possibility to a minimum, it cannot fundamentally prevent bacteria from breeding. To put an end to this health hazard, it is recommended that you at least change your toothbrush once a quarter. However, these bacteria will make a comeback within a short period of time, even 1 to 2 days. Therefore, it’s of vital importance to disinfect your toothbrush at a regular basis.
